“The truth is, we hide because we want to be found. We walk away to see who will follow. We fall to see who will come pick us up. We cry to see who will wipe away our tears and we let our hearts get broken to see who will come & fix them. Fate determines who walks into your life; you determine who you let walk out, who you let stay, and who you refuse to let go.”—
“One of the greatest sorrows of human existence is that some people aren’t happy merely to be alive but find their happiness only in the misery of others.”—Dean Koontz (via kari-shma) (via sine-qua-non)
Little things can make a world a difference, and if this song did not have that opening howl + “stop!” sequence, it might not have made the list. The “stop!” grabs me by the arm says ‘Hey, you really need to listen to this song about scuba-diving. You really like that guitar riff and those ghostly voices, remember? Also, Steve Albini produced me and every aspect of my recording sounds fucking awesome, so turn up the volume too!’.
“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most importantly, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”—Steve Jobs (via matty1987) (via ohhellno)
“A man’s ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death.”—Einstein (via sweetcaroline)
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”—Mark Twain (via lorenrochelle)
“Everyone of us is losing something precious to us. Lost opportunities, lost possibilities, feelings we can never get back again. That’s part of what it means to be alive. But inside our heads—at least that’s where I imagine it—there’s a little room where we store those memories. A room like the stacks in this library. And to understand the workings of our own heart we have to keep on making new reference cards. We have to dust things off every once in a while, let in fresh air, change the water in the flower vases. In other words, you’ll live forever in your own little private library.”—Haruki Murakami (via littlemiss: theelectricsheep: michellardi) (via thresca) (via sine-qua-non)
